Situated along the fairway in Nieuwpoort, this apartment benefits from an exceptional location overlooking the harbour and its constantly changing maritime landscape. The property was originally purchased through a project developer, but the owners were looking for a way to transform the standard apartment into a more personal and refined living environment. They approached us to guide them in shaping an interior that would better reflect their lifestyle and future plans.

The apartment is intended as a place where the couple can spend time with friends, but equally as a family retreat where children – and eventually grandchildren – can gather by the sea. Creating an inviting and comfortable environment that encourages longer stays and frequent visits to the coast therefore became an important starting point for the design.

Working from the original plan provided by the developer, we reinterpreted the layout to create a clearer spatial hierarchy and a stronger connection between the different living areas. Spending time together in the main living space was essential for the clients. For this reason, the kitchen was designed as a separate yet closely connected space, allowing the dining and living areas to flow naturally into one another while maintaining a sense of calm and order.

Privacy was equally important within the more intimate parts of the apartment. The master suite was designed as a secluded space with an ensuite bathroom, offering the owners a quiet retreat within the apartment. Additional bedrooms were conceived with their own ensuite bathrooms as well, allowing family members or guests to enjoy a sense of independence while staying together under one roof.

Materiality plays a defining role in the character of the interior. The flooring combines ash parquet with muschelkalk natural stone, a rough and expressive material that continues into the bathrooms. Together, these surfaces create a subtle dialogue between the warmth of wood and the mineral quality of stone, echoing the contrast between the softness of sand and the rugged textures of coastal rocks.

The walls are finished in a combination of Terra Sapele wood and a lime-based paint technique, adding warmth and depth to the interior. These natural finishes form a calm backdrop for the stainless steel elements that appear throughout the apartment, from the kitchen surfaces to the lighting fixtures and tapware. The brushed metal introduces a refined, almost maritime character that subtly references the harbour context.
