Facing the beach and the North Sea, the apartment is organized around an open living space where kitchen, dining and lounge areas flow together. Soft forms, light materials and subtle blue accents reflect the coastal setting, resulting in a warm and contemporary seaside retreat.
Situated along the promenade of the Belgian coast, this apartment was designed as a contemporary family retreat overlooking the beach and the North Sea. Developed for a young family with two young children, the project forms part of a broader composition in dialogue with the neighbouring apartment of a sibling. Although presented as two distinct homes, both residences are subtly connected through a shared children’s room, allowing the apartments to function together during larger family gatherings.
This connecting room was conceived as a generous and playful sleeping space, carefully organized to accommodate up to seven sleeping places. Through an efficient and considered layout, the room offers flexibility and comfort, creating a place where children can gather, play and stay together while each finding their own corner within the larger space.
The apartment itself is organized around its strongest quality: uninterrupted views towards the beach and sea. For this reason, the main living areas were positioned along the façade, where the kitchen, dining space and lounge unfold as one open and connected environment. Natural light and the changing coastal atmosphere become an integral part of the daily experience of the interior.
At the centre of this open-plan space, a sculptural kitchen island acts as the social heart of the apartment. Designed to ensure fluid circulation, the island functions both as a practical cooking element and as a place where family and guests can naturally gather — standing, sitting or meeting throughout the day. A separate dining table complements this arrangement, allowing for both informal and more traditional moments of gathering.
The softened, rounded geometry of the island subtly echoes the movement of the sea and the horizon visible beyond the windows. This language of gentle curves introduces calmness and fluidity to the interior, reinforcing the direct connection between architecture and landscape.
Materiality was approached with a light and tactile sensibility. A pale parquet floor is combined with microcement surfaces, creating a seamless transition between different zones of the apartment. This interplay of textures results in an interior that feels both warm and restrained, suited to the relaxed atmosphere of coastal living.
Blue accents integrated within the custom furniture and loose furnishings further strengthen the seaside identity of the project. Rather than becoming literal references, these tones quietly reflect the surrounding sea and sky, bringing depth and freshness to the overall palette.
Despite a compact surface of 75 square meters, the apartment accommodates two bedrooms and two bathrooms, demonstrating a careful balance between spatial efficiency and comfort.
