apartment II
Located beside the neighbouring family apartment along the Belgian coast, this residence was conceived as a complementary yet distinct retreat. While sharing a connection through the children’s area, the interior follows its own spatial logic and atmosphere.
Designed around comfort and togetherness, the living space prioritises gathering, dining and moments of relaxation with the entire family. Warm oak finishes, natural stone and carefully integrated seating create a calm and timeless apartment shaped by coastal living.
Situated along the Belgian coastline, this apartment was designed as a companion residence to the neighbouring family apartment, with both homes subtly connected through a shared children’s zone. While similar in size and practical requirements, the clients wished for a completely different atmosphere and spatial experience within this second residence.
Where the adjacent apartment focuses on openness around a central island, this interior was conceived as a place of comfort, intimacy and family togetherness. It was important for the clients to create a living space where the entire family could gather in one generous seating area — to cocoon during the winter months, while equally enjoying the bright and open atmosphere of summer by the sea.
The apartment is therefore organised around a spacious lounge area designed for collective use. Soft seating and carefully considered proportions allow the space to function as the social heart of the home, encouraging relaxed moments spent together throughout the day.
Dining also played a central role in the brief. Sharing meals as a family was considered essential, leading to the integration of a generous dining table within the main living area. To maximise both comfort and capacity, a built-in bench was introduced, creating an efficient and welcoming setting for larger gatherings.
The kitchen was designed as a full corner composition in oak veneer, bringing warmth and tactility to the interior. While this apartment expresses a distinct identity, continuity with the neighbouring residence was maintained through the use of the same natural stone: Sinai Pearl. This subtle shared material language creates a visual connection between both homes while allowing each apartment to retain its own character.
Along the large window overlooking the North Sea, a custom seating niche was created. Positioned to fully embrace the coastal views, this space combines comfort with integrated storage, carefully designed to use every available centimeter efficiently. It offers a more intimate place to sit, read or simply experience the changing light and landscape beyond.
The entrance and night hall were conceived as generous transitional spaces, leading to two bathrooms. The master suite benefits from its own connected bathroom, while a separate children’s bathroom with shower serves the remaining bedrooms. This arrangement ensures both privacy and practicality for family life.
Material choices remain soft, warm and timeless. Oak veneer, pale stone and integrated joinery create an atmosphere that feels calm and durable, suited to both everyday use and longer stays by the sea.
The result is a coastal family apartment defined by comfort, functionality and a strong sense of togetherness — a home where everyday rituals and shared moments take centre stage, framed by uninterrupted views of the North Sea.
