The family house
This project was conceived as a true family home, designed to bring together multiple generations under one roof. The clients approached us with the ambition to create a place where family life could unfold across time. A house equally suited for everyday living, shared moments and future gatherings.
Developed in close collaboration with the architect, the project started from an almost blank canvas, while carefully responding to the existing site and the presence of a pre-existing villa. The new intervention takes the form of a long, linear volume with a clear and contemporary architectural language, deliberately contrasting with the existing condition. Despite this strong gesture, each interior space was designed with precision to introduce warmth, tactility and a sense of domestic comfort.
The villa accommodates a wide range of functions, each with its own atmosphere, yet all connected through a consistent material palette and a series of recurring architectural elements. These choices ensure that, while each space feels distinct, the overall concept remains coherent throughout the entire house.
At the heart of the living space, a sculptural, rounded bar element in afromosia wood becomes a central focal point. It is paired with a Sinai Pearl natural stone countertop, a material that reappears across different areas of the house, including the wellness spaces. This dialogue between wood and stone establishes a warm yet refined material identity that is carried throughout the project. The oak parquet flooring, introduced in this space, continues seamlessly across all levels, reinforcing the continuity of the interior.
The lower ground floor adopts a more introspective and intimate atmosphere. A burgundy lime-based finish on the walls introduces depth and a distinct spatial character, creating a clear contrast with the lighter ground floor above. This level is designed as a shared family zone where each member can find their own place. Arcade games introduce a playful layer, while a dedicated cinema area allows for quiet, collective moments. A wine bar adds another dimension, offering a more relaxed and social setting within the same space.
Here, a careful balance is established between openness and intimacy. Custom-made cabinetry in afromosia wood is used throughout, its warm tones further enriched by the deeper color palette of the walls, creating a cohesive and enveloping environment.
In contrast, the upper floor is defined by lightness and openness. Large windows frame expansive views of the surrounding landscape, allowing nature to fully enter the interior. The material palette is intentionally kept soft and restrained, enabling the exterior environment to take a central role in the spatial experience. Wide oak planks continue into the bedrooms and bathrooms, creating a sense of continuity and calm.
In these upper spaces, the grey nuances of the Sinai Pearl stone are complemented by the use of titanium travertine, subtly reinforcing the mineral quality of the interior. This combination enhances the overall balance between warmth and refinement that defines the project.
The ground floor follows a clear linear organization, reflecting the elongated geometry of the building. Carefully positioned openings, internal windows and framed doorways create visual connections across the length of the house. These sightlines extend towards the surrounding garden, integrating the landscape into the daily experience of the interior.
The villa is set within a meticulously designed garden, composed of ponds, mature trees, planting beds and layered greenery. The architecture is deliberately positioned within this environment, allowing the interior to constantly engage with the natural surroundings. As a result, views and visual connections become a fundamental design tool, reinforcing the relationship between house and landscape.
The project ultimately results in a carefully balanced composition where each space carries its own identity, yet remains intrinsically connected to the whole. A timeless family home shaped by material consistency, spatial clarity and a deep connection to its context.
